Cookie & Data Notice

Last updated: May 4, 2026

What This Notice Covers

This notice explains how Sued ("we," "us," or "our") handles cookies and browser storage. We're committed to transparency about how we collect and use data.

The short version: Sued uses browser storage (localStorage) for essential authentication and to keep the dashboard fast. On production, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the product is used — this sets first-party cookies in your browser. We do not run advertising, do not sell data, and do not use third-party tracking beyond GA4. Browser-level tracker blockers (uBlock, Brave Shields, etc.) reliably opt you out of GA4.

Our Use of Browser Storage (localStorage)

Sued stores data in your browser's localStorage to keep you logged in and provide core functionality. This is strictly necessary for the service to work.

What We Store

sued_token

Your JWT authentication token. This keeps you logged in across browser sessions. Expires after 30 days of inactivity. Can be invalidated server-side at any time through our token versioning system. Stored only on your device—never sent to third parties.

sued_admin_key

Admin API key for internal admin dashboard. Only present for Sued team members with admin access. Handled the same way as sued_token.

sued.alertsCache.v1.<user_id>:<period>

5-minute TTL cache of your dashboard alerts so the page renders instantly while a fresh fetch runs in the background. Cleared on logout. Stored only on your device — never sent to third parties.

sued.overageWarningDismissed.v1.<user_id>.<YYYY-MM>

Tracks whether you've dismissed the briefing-overage warning modal for the current month (only relevant for Protect Plus and Intelligence tiers). Auto-resets on the 1st of each calendar month so the warning re-fires when your billing cycle does.

Why we store these: Authentication tokens keep you logged in across page refreshes; the alerts cache keeps the dashboard snappy on repeat opens; the overage dismissal flag respects your "don't show again this month" preference. None of this is used for tracking or shared with third parties.

Cookies We Set

On production (www.suedalerts.com) we run Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and features people use, so we can improve them. GA4 sets the following first-party cookies in your browser:

_ga

Google Analytics visitor identifier. Used to distinguish unique visitors from returning ones. 2-year expiry. Domain: .suedalerts.com.

_ga_WNEDFDG7FQ

Google Analytics session identifier (one per GA4 property — the suffix matches our Measurement ID). Tracks session state across page-views. 2-year expiry. Domain: .suedalerts.com.

These cookies do not identify you personally. We don't send your name, email, phone number, watchlist, or alert content to GA4 — only anonymous events like "page view" and feature-usage signals. Local development sessions never send to GA4.

Opting out. Browser-level tracker blockers (uBlock Origin, Brave Shields, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, etc.) reliably opt you out — GA4 simply receives no data from your visits. You can also install the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on for a global opt-out across all GA4-enabled sites.

Beyond GA4, Sued does not set advertising cookies, behavioural-tracking cookies, or sell cookie data to third parties. If you see other cookies in your browser, they come from external services (see below).

Third-Party Services

While Sued itself doesn't set cookies, some external services you interact with may set their own. Here's what we use and what they do:

Stripe (Payment Processing)

When you go to upgrade your plan or enter payment information, you're redirected to Stripe's checkout page. Stripe may set cookies and use browser storage for fraud prevention and payment processing. These cookies are set on stripe.com, not on our domain. Learn more about Stripe's practices.

Vercel (Frontend Hosting)

Sued's frontend is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may set minimal analytics cookies to monitor site performance and uptime. You can opt out of Vercel analytics through their privacy settings.

Google Fonts (Typography)

We use fonts hosted by Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). When your browser requests these fonts, Google may log the request. Google does not set cookies for font requests, but their logs may include your IP address and User-Agent. See Google's privacy policy for details.

How to Manage Browser Storage

You control the data stored on your device. Here's how to clear localStorage in major browsers:

Chrome / Chromium (Chrome, Edge, Brave)

  1. Open Developer Tools (F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I)
  2. Go to Application tab
  3. Under Storage, click Local Storage
  4. Select https://www.suedalerts.com
  5. Click Delete (trash icon) or right-click and select Delete

Firefox

  1. Open Developer Tools (F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I)
  2. Go to Storage tab
  3. Expand Local Storage
  4. Right-click https://www.suedalerts.com and select Delete

Safari

  1. Open Develop menu (Command+Option+I)
  2. Go to Storage tab
  3. Select Local Storage
  4. Find https://www.suedalerts.com and delete

Or Clear Everything

You can also clear all browser data (cookies, storage, cache) through your browser's settings. This will log you out of Sued and other sites, but no data will be lost—your account remains intact on our servers.
